easily find new games

Hi guys,

I setup retorpie on a spare laptop, Is there anyway to create a "recently added" area? when i add new roms, it takes a bit to find them in the lists.

EmulationStation doesn't have a 'recent' collection built in, since it doesn't keep track of the date/time when a game was added.
You can add a custom collection for 'recent' games and populate it with a script - the list of ROMs in a collection is a plain text .cfg file which keeps the paths of the ROMs.

@mitu There is the "last time played" stuff. Could you just sort that backwards to find things you've never played?

@iandaemon I mean, this wouldn't separate "games you've never played because you've never played them" from "games you've never played because they're new," but yeah sort of, I guess?

OK, just a thought. I was thinking of viewing titles based on time played, but you're right. If you never played a game because you don't like it, that would be mixed in with the "new" additions.

On a laptop such solution would be feasible (eg. this week, this month, last month added aso.) as it has a real time clock (RTC). On the raspberry things are different as it has no RTC. It is easy to imagine that the dates added ROMs does differ from the current date thus the "this month" list for example may not reflect the reality.

I assume this general lack of the RTC is why such "recently added" functionality has not been considered in RetroPie/Emulationstation. Additionally this functionality would need to check every ROM's date on Emulationstation start or an extra element in gamelist.xml to hold the date added.

As a workaround: I would navigate to the ROM share \\retropie\roms\ and sort by date. From there you could guess the game title (or peek/search in gamelist.xml). With that information you could spot them in Emulationstation.

@lolonois and yet, it tracks their last-played date and even groups them into a last-played category if you enable it. As long as you have network access, you have an accurate clock I think.
