I noticed that the EmulationStation license does allow sublicensing. I was wondering if this option has been considered by the RetroPie maintainers and what was the outcome?

From my point of view it would be more consistent (and would also close a loophole e.g. for charging for RetroPie's ES) to put the RetroPie's fork of EmulationStation under GPLv3 same as the RetroPie-Setup scripts are.

Is GPL'ing ES on the roadmap of RetroPie? If yes: By when can it be considered? If no: What are the impediments of doing so?
