pi 4 gaming kit

[im looking for a pi 4 for retro gaming
im new to the pi and am thinking of this kit.
is it worth it , going to get the 8gb version,
how's the controllers ? or should i get bluetooth ones to go with it
or am i better buying the kit with no controllers
keep seeing heatsinks recommended

@markyb2021 For pretty much all things Retropie runs on a Pi4, that 4GB of RAM is already overkill, so you don't need to spend the extra cash. Personally, I can't stand wired controllers. I would invest in some nice wireless 8bitdo ones, they're great quality.

@markyb2021 Retropie will run everything just fine with the 2gb version without a issue, but with shortages and whatnot 4 works perfectly.

try for a 2gb and get some 8bitdo controllers as @WeirdH said, but if you cant get the 2gb version get the 4gb

Been watching a YouTube video on setting up a pi4 with retro pi
And he said you need a wired controller to initially set it up
That’s why I was going fo4 this kit
On one of my previous posts someone mentioned the 8bitdo controllers , I’ve been looking at them
One other thing is heatsinks and fans
Ive read you don’t need either , and also that you do need them

@markyb2021 I can't speak for other wireless controllers but the 8bBitdo can act as both wired and wireless

I have my Pi 4 in the "official" (red & white plastic, said not to have the best in terms of ventilation) case with the official fan & heatsink.

The fan is set to come on at 80 °C to cool it down before thermal throttling occurs at 85.

The fan never comes on.

It does work, it just never gets that hot.

It idles around 55-60 depending on the season. While playing it creeps up into the mid-high 60s, and even reached into the low 70s this past summer when the temperatures were up but I've never seen it higher than, like, 74.

I don't overclock, or play much in the way of N64.

just looking at the 8bitdo pro controller , and amazon are showing a wireless adapter which it says for raspberry pi , do i actually need this

@markyb2021 for 8bitdo they have bluetooth and/or 2.4. since the Pi4 has bluetooth built in you go with bluetooth.

and yes you need something wired to get started with the setup for RetroPie. which the 8bitdo does do with the usb cable

this one says Bluetooth right in it. so i would recommend to go with that one. (yes this listing is from the US)

@markyb2021 it will work both ways, if it says bluetooth on it then you can connect with that, once you get past the first start up. or they have said

i always have a keyboard to use as my first controller for the first setup part. so i dont know if the 8bitdo can connect with bluetooth while its being used as a wired controller
