Suggestions for ports #2

@boolean i just updated my script.
i have music going for mine.
i have my music as ogg. and i saw i was missing the library for ogg
and in the settings you make sure its changed to use all codecs -
@exarkuniv So I just have to fetch the updated script and rebuild it from source? That would be awesome!
EDIT: I noticed that you've updated Hexen2-RPI, but I was using Hexen2-GL-RPi (for RPi4). Would you be so kind to fix that script as well?
-
@boolean yeah. i kinda forgot that i had 2. sorry.
its updated now. -
For me, the must have port would be Thimbleweek Park
-
if someone where to release the source for it. we could give it a shot. but since that is a more modern game.
your best chance is to use steam link or something like that.
-
@exarkuniv Thanks for updating it (and the time and effort you've put in all of this)! Have you tried it yourself after recompiling it? On my end it still doesn't play music. When set it to "all codecs" I hear a faint ticking/popping sound in the background during gameplay.
I've put the OGG files beneath in "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/hexen2/data1/music/".
casb3.ogg casb2.ogg casb1.ogg roma3.ogg roma2.ogg roma1.ogg meso3.ogg meso2.ogg meso1.ogg egyp3.ogg egyp2.ogg egyp1.ogg casa4.ogg casa3.ogg casa2.ogg casa1.ogg
PS. When I write down "music casb3.ogg" in the console, it actually plays the track, but it also did that before I've recompiled it with your altered script.
-
@boolean odd.
yes i did try it before i responded back to you. i have a test card that i just wipe and start over when im working on things.i have my music in
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/hexen2/data1/music
casa4.ogg casa3.ogg casa2.ogg casa1.ogg casb3.ogg casb2.ogg casb1.ogg egyp3.ogg egyp2.ogg egyp1.ogg meso3.ogg meso2.ogg meso1.ogg roma3.ogg roma2.ogg roma1.ogg
mine is in a different order but that dont matter. and i just checked to make sure i was hearing the music right since i have not gone past the first level. but it is playing casa1.ogg on the first level.
i did find out that the portals/music is not playing, but the music from hexen2.
Not sure if you can do this, but if you have a spare card. do a clean load. update retropie and try hexen2 again with nothing else installed. maybe you have a conflict with something else.

ok looking at other post, that is normal. for the first few levels of PoP it will play music from hexen 2. so no problem there
im still looking into anything for your issue. its kinda hard since its working for mine
-
@boolean when you start the game. open the console and take a screenshot so i can see what yours is trying to enable.
i was playing around with the different drivers and ones that work still have the BGM. and the ones that dont have no sound at all
its just odd that its working fine on my build
-
@exarkuniv The "music casa3" you see in the console is my manual input to test if the music is actually playable, so you can ignore that.
I've tried everything, but there's no BGM unless I trigger it manually each level.
-
@exarkuniv I've got a spare 128GB Samsung EVO microSD laying around somewhere on which I could try a clean install. I'll report back after I've tried it, thanks!
-
@boolean yeah. Your screen shot looks just like mine other then the controllers. I don't have mine set up. But everything else looks like mine.
This is now making me angry
-
@exarkuniv Haha, don't be angry! I appreciate the time and effort you put into your work. The least I can do is test the provided scripts and report back my experience. Normally I would be able to come with a solution myself, but on this one I'm completely in the dark.
It would be awesome if the Retropie team added your repo to their knowledgebase/documentation. I'm sure many people would benefit from it. It's only by accident that I've stumbled upon this tread, otherwise I wouldn't have been aware of your work.

@exarkuniv I'm in if you want to have some scripts reviewed and/or updated
-
@cyperghost if you are willing, ill take all the help i can get.
for the most part they are work, but im sure there is better ways to get them working then the way i did.they are more a quick and dirty way i think, but who knows maybe i did them right for the most part. lol
-
@exarkuniv Yes I can do some quick looks, you should update the fork... sadly Zerojay gave up but on a quick view most of the scripts are in good condition.
Most focus should be set on OpenBOR. My personal focus is just on the old platform (non Pi4)... the good times ;)
Hi. A combination of my poor health and the targetted harassment by a small group of RetroPie users who believe I owe them my time has made me decide that I can't do this any longer. My enthusiasm for RetroPie has dropped due to these people and I haven't touched my Pi in a year. Also, I've spent a significantly greater amount of time on tinkering and playing around with emulators and I just want to get back to actually enjoying the games themselves again.
@zerojay Take your time to use the Raspberry intended as it is. A small device for pure gaming ;) Get the best ot of it and enjoy your precious time - for you not for ungrateful ones.
-
@cyperghost yes my plan is to take over RetroPie-extras. I have gone through and found what installs and want doesn't. So I can update that and see then focus on what needs to be fixed if it can be fixed. And add all of mine to it also. :)
-
@cyperghost i have updated RetroPie-Extras so now it install into the
ext
foldernow i get a error about there being double scripts. one of them being openbor. i know that there is one inclued in the main setup which downloads from
rofl0r
and the one in RetroPie-Extras downloads from you.is there a difference between yours and
rofl0r
. if there is i will name it differently so we have a choice -
A few more games that I have gotten to run on my pi4 are Serious Sam 1 & 2 (serious-engine), Freespace 2 (Freespace open), and Heroes of MM3 (vcmi engine). I didn't see these listed in your post, so thought they may be good candidates to add. I have tested them and they all run smoothly. Its been a while since I compiled them but iirc they were pretty easy to setup.
