Emulation Station crashing on startup Arcade1up
-
I just finished my retropie setup for Arcade1up. I'm using a Raspberry pi 4 powered with usb-c with the latest build downloaded from this site. For controls I'm using EG STARTS Arcade DIY Kit Part 2x 8 Way Joystick + 16x LED Illuminated Push Button + 2 Player + Coin Buttons.
When I start up with both controllers plugged in I get this error on startup .
However when I unplug either one and startup with just one controller it boots up as normal.
Even weirder when I plugin my raspberry pi 3 it works with both controllers plugged in so it seems to be a raspberry pi 4 issue.
I tried a fresh install using the latest build on the pi 4 and I'm having the same issue. I even tried installing the beta 4.6 for the pi 4 and still the same issue. I've been googling this issue for hours now and the only other post that mentions this is unresolved. -
This usually happens if the controllers are disconnecting during startup. Just to check if this is the case, run from the terminal
emulationstation --debug
and post the last error shown by EmulationStation, should be printed on the terminal.
Are you using the official power source for the Pi4 ? Controllers disconnecting might be an indication of not enough power. -
@mitu When I type emulationstation --debug it just reboots and brings me back to the same error again but ya I'm sure the controllers are disconnecting just before bootup finishes. The controllers led stays red at bootup and stays red if only one of them is plugged in. When both of them are plugged in they stay red until just before that error message appears then they flash on and off red. Double checked to see if the pi logo is on the USB-c plug and it is so using right power source.

The main issue seems to be the controllers being plugged in at startup. If you plug them in after startup they work fine so I'm looking for any kind of workaround here. Is there any way to script a delay for the check for controllers until after emulation station has started?

You may try resetting the USB port with an utility like uhubctl, before EmulationStation starts.

I had the same problem and the answer of @DanTarl in the post "https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/31488/solved-repeated-disconnect-of-zero-delay-usb-encoder-dragonrise/2?_=1640282263483" solve my problem
