X-Arcade TankStick M.A.M.E. NOT Working?

Hi,
I've got an older RetroPie on an older RPi2.
I am trying to get the X-Arcade TankStick working in M.A.M.E. but it won't work?
Anyone know how to get this nice dual arcade joystick to work with RetroPie and M.A.M.E.?Also, I am running a much older RetroPie, is there an easy method to update RetroPie to newest version?
(hopefully something simple in RetroPie menu?)
