Emustation scraper/kid mode malfunction
-
Hello all,
I have RPi4b 1GB with the current release of retropie running in a cocktail table I just completed building with a 21" CRT connected through s-video using a HDMI convertor. I just got everything working well after a lot of problems with screen rotation (vertical) then resolution setting. Honestly, it suddenly seemed to fix itself and I'm not entirely sure if it was me or what, lol. I have yet to back it up and before I could I seem to have some corrupted files causing problems and wonder what people suggest I do to avoid losing my configurations.
The problem I've encountered is when I run the scraper from Emulation station, it loads into the command line and stops there. I have to type "exit" and I'm back where I started. I can't seem to get scraper to work.
I'm questioning if maybe someone inadvertantly changed something when I wasn't there so I decided to change the mode to "kid" so that no one could get into any menus. That's when I got a message saying there was nothing to there to display in kid mode and it returned to full mode. I was able to get into kiosk mode, however.
So I'm thinking EmulationStation is corrupted and I need to do a reinstall of retropie to correct it, but I'm concerned about losing my configs.
Any suggestions on approaches? Obviously, I will back it up this time before I do anymore changes. I'm afraid I'll just have to start from scratch anyway if no one has any input.thanks

ES might have nothing to show because nothing has been marked as a "kid" game. You have to set a flag to "approve" which games you deem "kid friendly". (Maybe you want to hide the potty-mouthed Q*bert.)
"Full" mode in EmulationStation shows everything.
"Kiosk" mode is opt-out which will show everything except select entries. (you can hide entries such as settings this way)
"Kid" mode is opt-in which will only show certain entries. (only show pac-man, donkey kong, mr. do, etc.)
