Need advice on thumbstick selection for DIY portable

After wasting hours on Adafruit, eBay, Alixpress and google, I still have NO CLUE which one to order.
These little things are finicky, and I'm looking for something that will be enjoyable to use and last more than a month.
I remember finding the PSP 1's micro thumb stick being annoying, to use, so I'm probably looking for something a little bigger. The Nintendo Switch style thumb stick look great, but I read the quality is hit-and-miss between vendors.
Does anyone have recommendations?

@tcz I know a lot of people use PS Vita thumbsticks for upgrading the Odroid Go Super.
