Controllers not working
-
Pi Model or other hardware: 4 2Gb
Power Supply used: (If using a Pi) Official Pi 4
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.7.1 (4_400.img)
Built From: Raspberry Pi Imager
USB Devices connected: Keyboard
Controller used: Official Xbox 360 \ Official PS4 (both wired USB)
Error messages received: None
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) SpectrumNew to all this, have followed all instructions I think - but just cannot get the controller to control a game in the Spectrum emulator...
RetroPie recognises the 360 controller fine on setup, configures it, allows me to control the menus, select emulator, brings up menus, on loading a game it displays the controller in yellow at bottom of screen...but will not work !
What have I missed ?
I must be missing a step - but can't see where....

Zx spectrum had multiple joystick standards (cursor, kempston, Sinclair and some games are keyboard only). You have to configure how the gamepad maps.
You can switch the input to kempston in the RetroArch GUI. Or edit the config so gamepad defaults to kempston - see this thread : https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4074/fuse-kempston (assuming the ID is the same).

Btw I was assuming you were using the lr-fuse core. If using standalone fuse, then my advice won't help. Please let us know which emulator if you're not using the libretro core.
