Please add more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. Add some info about your audio settings (HDMI/Analog/etc.).

@pindapoe said in Audio error Retropie 4.8:

lvl0: VolumeControl::init() - Failed to find mixer elements!:

          Hello,
I had the same problem too with my Retropie 4.8 original image from Retropie homepage and the Raspberry Pi 3 b+ .I use 3.5mm audio output for my system.
If you have Raspberry Pi 3 b+ or Raspberry Pi 4 and use also 3.5mm output Jack for the audio, then I think this solution below can solve your problem too:

@niyoki Thanks for your help, anyway the string is already there and the error shows after installing pixel desktop.

@pindapoe Installing the desktop adds PulseAudio, that's taking over the audio output. EmulationStation doesn't support PulseAudio, hence the error shown in the terminal.

@mitu Thanks for the answer, and can I uninstall the pulse audio?

@pindapoe You can disable it from the Audio menu in RetroPie, but it will cause issues when you use the Desktop unless you disable or remove the lxplug-volumepulse package.
