Turbo fire for mame2003?

Using: Pi400 Retropie 4.8
I have not been able to get turbo fire to work for any games
I've looked through other posts and have tried:
Retroarch menu -> Input -> Turbo fire : any mode, tried many different buttons, mapped the turbo button in P1 controls to the same button configured in the Turbo fire menu. Thoroughly tried the different modes (toggle / hold / classic) in multiple games.Is this feature confirmed to work for arcade games?

Forgot to mention: using a PS4 (dual shock) controller.

@six50joe i remember someone mentioning there are 2 menus for turbo fire and that apparently both need to be set (i didn't test).

@barbudreadmon Assuming you are referring to the Turbo setting under P1 control mappings (I'm not in front of it and don't recall the exact name), I have tried setting that to match the one in the turbo menu. No success there.
