It would be wonderful if SCID could be ported.

      http://scid.sourceforge.net/

I'm fairly certain though that it's a nightmare to compile.

So what other possibilities are there to have Chess software running in Retropie?

Looking for something that has playing pieces, board, and coloring options.

      Good resolution.

An evaluation bar or score (chess engine) would also be much preferred.

      Cheers. :)

You can install the desktop and run scid from there, it's available from the Raspberry Pi OS repository and can be installed with apt.

          Install the desktop?

Link for this please since I'm not sure what you mean by that.
