Building a Retropie image on a pi400 to be used on a pi 4
-
Hello everyone!
I have pi4 on pre-order but who knows when it will show up (damn you chip shortage). In the meantime I’ve also bought a pi400 because they are actually available and should be delivered soon.
My question is if I build a Retropie image on the pi400 will it run seamlessly on the pi4? I do plan on installing roms for NES, SNES, PSP,
Dreamcast, MAME, Sega Genesis and PS1 on a Sandisk Ultra 256 card. I also would pair a 8bitdo pro 2 controller.
I also plan to overclock the pi4 to 1.8 ghz to match the pi400.
Has anyone have luck doing this? Thanks!

It should work, the models are similar.

@mitu As far as I know they are identical apart from the fact that the 400 is using binned chips that can be clocked higher, thanks to the 400's cooling solution.

@Schmuppes The Pi400 is also missing the analog 3.5' jack.

I have setup a RetroPie image on the Pi400 and later i used the sd card to Pi4 without issues. I have try the opposite without problems too. I didn't try to overclocked the systems.

Thanks everyone for the replies. You guys are super helpful. Got my
Pi400 today and very excited to set it up. I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions though. Thanks again!
