emulationstation not working

whenever i type in emulationstation in the terminal it comes up with this failed to add service - already in use? before that i accidentally installed retroarch on the desktop and uninstalled it now i can't get it to work i've tried uninstalling retropie reinstalling it tried installing retroarch though the package options on retropie and i tried installing it from the package manager on the desktop i have a raspberry pi 400 and retropie 4.8

You're opening the 3rd topic with the same issue, and each time you did not provide the info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - please do so.
The error you posted seems to indicate that EmulationStation is not correctly built for the Pi4. You mention 'the desktop' - RetroPie doesn't support running ES from the desktop. Are you using the RetroPie image from retropie.org.uk/download or some 3rd party image/OS ?

@mitu this is a separate issue i fixed the other one i download the os from the retropie site i have 4.8 i have the raspberry pi 400 idk how to get the other information you need

@RobbyThomas2525 Ok then, with a stock 4.8 image from retropie.org.uk/download EmulationStation works - did you do any additional configuration on your system, like installing an additional display driver or modifying the
config.txt
boot configuration file ?
