Who uses an arcade stick?

@Teh_Lurv
You're into Street Fighter V?Who hurt you to want to play that game? :(
LOL, yeah that game was rough the first two years.
-
I have twin Hori RAP 4 Kai's, using Sanwa parts. I mostly play by myself, but Third Strike and MVC2 matches always get heated when friends are over.

Do you know if it's possible to use acetone on this and remove some of the unwanted text and logo?
Hey I like that idea! I'll give it a shot.
I have access to acetone readily at work and if I could remove those button labels I might leave it blank or try p-touch labels to see how it would look with the proper button layout / functions.
Nope. It is definitely not working like the video made it look. I didn't do too much scrubbing because the acetone was starting to eat into the plastic a little. Mayflash put their button labels on in a way that doesn't come off easy.

I use this joystick/Pi case:
Deluxe Arcade Controller Kit for Raspberry Pi - ClassicMy review is on their site. I’m a casual retro player, no fighting games, so I can’t speak to the quality, but I like it for the things I play. Mostly c64, Amiga, Arcade, Genesis. And I can use it on my Mac and Windows too.
-
I use two (PS3-) Mortal Kombat Tournament Sticks.
They look great and they are great as i prefer HAPP-Controls and being not that SANWA-type-of-guy.I also have the NeoGeo Stick 2+, the MadCatz StreetFighterIV-Tournament-Stick, a Dreamcast ArcadeStick and the legendary HotRodSE from Hanaho for the PC, but the MK-Sticks are the only ones that work without any further drivers or modifications on my Pi. Plug & Play :D
-
I love my Tankstick.
-
@IanDaemon The version without the trackball is 1:1 to HanaHo´s HotRodSE.
The X-Arcade and the SlikStick (afaik no more available) were the cheaper alternatives to the HotRods.
I would have bought the X-Arcade too because of the price (HotRodSE: 700$) but the HotRod was the only Arcade-Stick on the market for quite a while and i wanted to have one AT ONCE! :D
I had to wait another 6 months for it, they were handbuilt on order and afterwards it had to be shipped to germany to reach me. -
@Addison said in Who uses an arcade stick?:
Oh no.
Now I feel bad for asking.
I had no idea that it would desolve the plastic. :/
No worries. I have played around with these plastic eating chemicals before so I recognized right away that it wasn't going to do what I was hoping. The small area I tested is barely noticeable.
This thread has really got me thinking about customizing sticks though. Sanwa, HAPP, ball top, bat top, 2lb springs, 4lb springs, push button colors... I can see where my hobby money is going to be spent now. I might buy a little of several things to see what preferences develop. I'd like to figure that out before I decide I must build my own cabinet at some point.
I think I enjoy the tinkering aspect just as much as playing the games now.

I love my Tankstick.
What I wouldn't give to own such an awesome arcade monster....
And $590 is what I wouldn't give. :P
-
@Addison Wait, what? They're asking that price now? I got mine for half that ~$250 USD (IIRC). I wouldn't have paid $500 USD.
(I just included the pic/vid for reference without reading their website for updates. Wait, It says $250 for me, maybe you were translating into another currency. I apologize.)
I can also use it for the Nintendo Switch, BUT I fear that it introduces a few frames of lag. (no proof, but not surprising with this setup...I'm probably just rusty)
Tankstick
into
Xarcade adaptor for GameCube
into
Nintendo Wii-U adaptor for "Smash Bros"
I still dig it for Musihimesama, fighters, and beat 'em ups on Switch.

Yeah.
Only one buying option that I found.
https://www.amazon.com/X-Arcade-Tankstick-Pc/dp/B000ST0184/
$590 plus tax.
The tax on that was what turned me away. :D
-
@Addison I just bought it directly from them. https://shop.xgaming.com/products/x-arcade-tankstick-trackball-usb-included
Know what you're buying: (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=149897.0) The Tankstick is "a jack of all trades and a master of none." This is totally fine for most applications. There is a decent modding community out there for Tanksticks if you are so inclined.
-
@IanDaemon I also have had the “Dual” version of this for a long time, fifteen years maybe? Slightly smaller and without the trackball. It has held up great.
I did eventually resolve the joysticks themselves with iL Eurosticks, which I really love. They fit right into the panel without having to modify the wood at all.
-
Just to show how similar they are :)
(HanaHo HotRod SE, introduced 1999 & X-Arcade, introduced 2001) -
I finally received an answer from Amazon today.
My question:
"Is it possible to use acetone to remove some of the unwanted text wording and logos on this for a more cleaner look?"Their reply:
"Yes it is"
MAYFLASH LIMITED
Seller · June 23, 2022Strange that it didn't work at all on your end. :(
-
@Addison
Well I have no doubt it will at some point remove the labels. I just wasn't sure how much plastic it would take with it and didn't want to go too far. I was concerned that i was about to create a divot in the panel. If you are brave and want to give it a try I would just advise going slowly.
-
I actually use two different ones.
This Street Fighter 4 one that I found at a Sams Club for only $50 new. (weirdly enough it was kind of hidden away)And a generic black one I got for when others want to play with the arcade sticks too
-
@HipsterElephant
I have that one as well, its a great stick!
I have:Mad Catz Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition
SFIV Arcade Fightstick (8818) Joystick - Madcatz
8bitdo FC30 Arcade Stick
