Retropie Under volting

Hello,

Looking for some assistance on why the retropie os is having issues with under volting. When I add a Xbox One controller the under volt message and icon appear while loading retropie. Does the same if a keyboard is added. This causes the controller and keyboard to not be recognized.
When I boot the raspberry pi os this does not happen. Keyboard, mouse and Xbox One controller are recognized. No issues.

Running raspberry pi CM4 2G. Power supply is my computer with EVGA 850W psu.

@ddragunsun PC ports generally cap out at 1 amp, especially if they are part of the motherboard. Use a separate power supply with a rating higher than 2 amps.

The issue is not RetroPie, but your power supply/board not providing enough power. Looking at the datasheets, I see the CM4 needs 5V/2A, but you're not powering it directly, but probably through a board where the CM4 is mounted.

The RPI IO board (sold by the Raspberry PI folks) needs a 12V PSU and consumption may be based on what the board enables on the CM4:

The exact current required from the +12V PSU is dependent on the application and on what is connected to the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 IO Board. We recommend budgeting 9W for CM4.

So you should look up the specs for your board and make sure you're using the right PSU.

@mitu my wall charger is a 12v 3A, it does not work. as stated I have three psus and none work. All psus have different voltage specs, hence why all were tested. If I look online for an official raspberry pi mirco usb charger, I can find a 5.1v 2.5A which is a pi 3 charger... CM4 must be micro usb, not usb c. I cannot find an official charger for pi 4 12V 3A... Is there a link that can be provided with an official power supply for the CM4? Thank you

I'm not sure there is one, the CM4 needs a carrier board for mounting - the power supply for that board dictates what PSU is needed. Some of them have a barrel plug connector, some of them have a USB-C. Ask the vendor of your board - or lookup the specs of the board - what is the right PSU (voltage/amps). For instance the Dual Gigabit Ethernet Carrier Board has an USB-C connected PSU and needs 5V/3A, while the TOFU Electronic Board has a barrel plug PSU connector and needs an 7.5 to 28V input.

If the one you have should fit the bill, but doesn't work, then it may not be providing a clean/constant power and you may need another one.

EDIT: another possibility is that the PSU is fine, but the carrier board doesn't provide enough power to the CM4. Is the CM4 properly seated/mounted on the board ?

@mitu I get it now... apologies. The carrier board is RGR Mini SS Main Board for CM4 Lite. Challenge is no one says what the psu is for it. Not the site, any reviews... nothing. This is not your issue. I apologize for not understanding before and extremely appreciate the support!!! All the best!

@ddragunsun The official pi4 power supply is usb-c 5.1V 3A. Not 12V. It will not fit on that particular board that requires micro usb psu. If you still get voltage issues with a micro usb 5.1 2.5A/3A then the board might not provide sufficient power. I'm not sure why the older micro usb port was used..maybe to save money on development costs.
