Nothing has changed that would affect the SDL joypad input in Emulation Station that I can think of after 3.8. The 8bitdo hack only affect how the configuration for RetroArch is generated, so if ES can't read the buttons correctly, it is either paired in the wrong mode, or the Udev rule is not in place.

Powering on with "Right+Start" is correct - What does it show under the Display Registered & Connected Bluetooth Devices when you have removed and repaired it in that mode ? From the bluetooth menu - did you install the "udev" rule ?

What joypad firmware are you on ?

This is unrelated to the problem but I'm having trouble connecting my a bitdo controllers to retropie on my pi 3. Any ideas why? On bootup it says that bluetooth configuration UARt has failed.

Everything was working great in emulationstation and in the retroarch emulators before running the update script, then afterwards the dpad would not work in emulationstation (I couldn't get it into an emulator because without the dpad I could not navigate to try one) so it must have changed something.

Controller firmware is 2.68. Right now it is paired with start + right shoulder, 8bitdo hack off (for newer firmware), installed udev rule. Under registered and connected devices is displayed "FE:FE:4E:E4:86:F5 8Bitdo NES30 GamePad Joystick". When you run emulationstation it detects the controller and you can hold down A to configure it, but then the first try to configure the dpad up, down, left, right are not recognized.

ok I just did a test and I can confirm the problem - it's a patch I did yesterday to fix issues with the 360 controller. I will revert it and build a new binary and it should sort it.

Sweet! It's good to know I'm not crazy... well at least not when it comes to this particular issue. So after you update it again to get the reversion I just run the update script again, correct?

Actually - I'm not sure now - as I thought it was a moment ago, but looks like my controller wasn't working correctly - a reboot and I am able to configure. But I will do further testing in case it is related.

There are definitely issues with the patch. I have uploaded new binaries now, so if you reinstall emulationstation from packages -> core > emulationstation it should sort it. You don't need to update the script.

Don't know if it is related or not but it is really weird: Controllers are working in emulationstation and every retroarch libreto console emulator except not working in the arcade emulators... lr-mame2003 lr-mame4all lr-fba and lr-fbanext don't even recognize there is a controller available. Tried remapping in retroarch and no go. Should I open a new topic?

If anyone is still having issues with the Bluetooth on NES30 controllers this might help.

I know it's for the Pro controllers but it worked for me.
