I am running a game through mame, but the controls are not responding. I can exit the game back to retropie and I can get into the retroarch menu. When I go into controller settings, the port 1 is get gravis pad, but none of the buttons are set. I am running mame-2013plus.

Is there another way to set the controls?

Pi Model or other hardware: P4 8gb

      RetroPie Version Used: 4.7
Built From: Pre-made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: none
Controller used: wii u pro controller

@psun03 said in MAME game, no control:

        You mean mame2003-plus ?

        RetroPie Version Used: 4.7

Any reason you're using an old version instead of the latest one ?

It looks like you have some controller remapping configured - the 1st controller should be the the Wii U controller if no other controllers are connected. Run the game with verbose logging enabled and post the resulting log file (/dev/shm/runcommand.log) on pastebin.com.

            Possibly related to:

            I am running a build of BBv8

Your log shows you have a game remap - delete it and see if the game controller is correctly used. Otherwise, if you're running a custom RetroPie image with patched RetroArch/cores, you'd have to ask the author of the image/patches for help - it's not the default behavior on a RetroPie stock image.

I don't think that will work. Just rename the game remap file and see if the issue is resolved, at least you can pinpoint the cause.

@psun03 game remap file will be in e.g.:

                    /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/mame2016/*.rmp

(Assuming your arcade roms are in the mame-libretro folder -- if they're in arcade instead, then change that part of the path.

@psun03 In addition to what @sleve_mcdichael said, you can see the name and location of the remap file in the log:

                      ...

                      [INFO] [Remaps]: remap directory: /opt/retropie/configs/arcade/
[INFO] [Remaps]: game-specific remap found at /opt/retropie/configs/arcade/MAME 2016/tokyowar.rmp.
                      ...
