I'm pretty new to this so this may be something obvious.
But I cannot start games without first going into 'configuration'.
When I click on a ROM to start, I get the following screens:
      alt text
      alt text
      alt text

I get the option to press any key to configure, at which point I use my keyboard, select start ROM and just start playing, however I can't do this just using a controller, and I'd rather not have to use a keyboard to start every ROM.
(I'm using the pokken pro pad, the configuration went fine and it works with the menus and in game)

Another issue is that I can't get sound to work. I tried changing the settings to force sound to go through the audio jack, and got nothing, and changing the volume levels in the menu doesn't do anything, as I can change it to 100, exit the menu, go back into the menu and it's reset to 0.

Edit: Using Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

Sounds like you have removed some python packages or your python install is broken. This could be due to corruption, or a faulty card or user error. Recommend starting from a fresh image.
