@Devil78 I think you forgot to provide the link.
EDIT: I googled about "pixel os" and look what I've found: https://susestudio.com/a/ee8A1P/pixel-os :/

Piexel OS ---> PixelOS.
Ok I googled too without results... Aniway I call it PixelOS not Pixel OS
This is Initial Test on a Virtual Machine -
@LinuxArcadeGuy
I working on it. New name, new logos, new platform, (X86-32bit not supported before), retropie 4.1.4. And, i hope, Emulation Station with multi language support. -
@Devil78 sweet, it would be nice if you could have added attract mode, I'm a firm believer in that retropie group needs to switch, as emulationststion hasn't been updated or improved in over 3 years!

Actually, some truly fantastic work is currently being done with Emulation Station in the form of a grid view addition and video previews. I believe there are even a few really nice features from the 'Kid Friendly' ES variant that are being considered for integration. I'm not sure when any of these additions will make their way into an official RetroPie release, but the work shown so far by the developers is amazing.
-
@mediamogul cool, because you don't really see that on the surface it must be in the form somewhere I've never browse the forum because it's spamed like crazy
-
@LinuxArcadeGuy He is talking about this forum not ES official forums.
-
@Rion is emulation station being advanced Officially or are they user mods? And if it's official when is the perspective release date for a complete version with all the new features ?
-
@LinuxArcadeGuy aniway, Attract Mode is present in this OS, installed with the Retropie-Setup script. It's can be installed directly from binary or source using standard ubuntu tools but i preferred the Retropie-setup script for better integration with all emulators.

it's being modified all the time https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/commits/master
whatever changes in there are in each new version of retropie, or if you update emulationstation via the script.
-
@Devil78 is attract mode natively available through the set up because I didn't see it or is that something you added

They are currently independent advancements. However, to my understanding, they will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in RetroPie once each is finished.
-
@Devil78 OK I updated the script which now has attractmode, which wasn't there before, I installed it from source, I rebooted my pi and it reverted to a command prompt after the emulation station boot screen crashed, how do I get attract mode to automatically boot? And what's going on here?

Hello there I love the idea of having the retropiex86 as a full distro the only other emulator based OS is Puppy Arcade, but there last update is back in 2014 and it has some serious issues. Like it being prone to crashing while trying to install manual updates to emulators, difficulty installing AMD or Nvidia Graphic Drivers (Only worked with very old cards.) Now I do have some questions about this project:
-
Is this distro only going to work with integrated graphic computers or will the be a easy to use Graphic Driver installer for Discrete GPUs? I know it sounds like a silly question, but with all the talk over Atoms, NUCs, and being a light distro I wanted to make sure.
-
Will there be (or could there be) a settings option to to straight to Emulation Station or to the desktop first?
3 . Can or will there be any feature to allow the use of a controller/joystick to be used as a mouse? This would come in handy for arcade cabs, and GPD Win users.
Anyway keep up the good work on your project. :D
Oh by the way I know about Lakka, but it dose not have a actual boot install and it has issues with discrete GPUs and proprietary devices.

So, i'm testing the beta version of retropie. The work in progress website is online and i will release the 1st Beta here soon. PixelOS Website Home and Screenshot pages only was uploaded. Download section will be activated before January 2017.
-
@Devil78 I love the work you did, I was planning to start a same project on my own but when I see this I'll try your OS first, because why invent the wheel twice ;-)
The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is the name of your Distro, "Pixel OS" the same name of the OS just released by the Raspberry Pi people, I hope that will not be a lead for confusion.
I like the Emulation Station front-end, but I would really love to see Attract Mode as an option as well.
I already tested the Attract Mode front-end in Ubuntu with separate emulators, but I failed to use the retropie X86 installation until know, I think there's a small mistake in the script somewhere.
Greetings,
KiwafP.S. I love to test the Beta version, hope the download section is uploaded real soon!

Hey Kiwaf. First of all I thank you for the compliments and encouragement. Regarding the distribution name I can tell you that, this choice, it was taken into account before the release of Pixel by the foundation Raspberry pi. I'm confident because the name of my project is PixelOS while that of the official distribution is Pixel. Two distributions that, while sharing the same heart, they turn to users of different architectures, at least for the moment. Anyway, I'm always available to resolve any issues in a calm manner and without creating problems. Thanks again for the support and suggestions, for me, always valuable and welcome.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
