After installing @George George McMullen's script for Wine, like @LivenCorpse unfortunately I installed it from the main branch not the emu branch. (Wish someone had told me this, I did ask...)

I had the same issues: Box86 was listed as "installed" in pi setup packages (but probably failed as in @LivenCorpse's case). After it threw the error of no license, I made the LICENSE folder, and like him got stuck on dynarec_arm_66.c.o file (around 31% built) experiencing a "fatal error". Except in my case after multiple attempts it seemed to install.

Wine then appeared to install, got as far as it asking me to install Wine mono installer, which it couldn't do, and skipped to see the wine installs in Ports menu.

After failed attempt to run example Goonies game and rebooting, however, I'm stuck on the Pi 4's boot screen. I can sudo login but it doesn't launch anything. Also checked my SD card and it has plenty space on it.

      Edit: I did

      cd retropie-setup
      chmod +c retropie_setup.sh
      sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

to go to setup and remove mesa, box86 and wine but I'm still stuck at the terminal screen after login.
