After updating to Xubuntu 22.10 RetroPie doesn't work anymore.

ES starts just fine but every game doesn't launch. This what verbose logging tells me: '.../opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch: error while loading shared libraries: libswscale.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory...'

So I have reinstalled all core components but to no avail. Also I updated all other components but still no luck.

Any advice/ideas are welcome. Many thanks in advance.

      Cheers,
      Marnix

PS: I run RetroPie on a x86 computer with Xubuntu. All of RetroPie is of the latest version, 4.8.

Did retroarch re-install ok ? I think on 22.10 the newer ffmpeg packages don't get along with the version that RetroPie installs (1.10).

@mitu I think not. Will try it again.

@mitu Tried a re-install but I got this error at the end:

Could not successfully build retroarch - RetroArch - frontend to the libretro emulator cores - required by all lr- emulators. (/home/retrogamer/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/retroarch/retroarch not found)*

Yes, that was expected. Until RetroArch 1.12.0 gets added to RetroPie (there's a PR for that), the current version will fail to build.
What you can do right now is modify the retroarch script and disable ffmpeg. In $HOME/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/emulators/retroarch.sh, line 40, add --disable-ffmpeg to the existing build parameters. Re-install again retroarch from RetroPie-Setup and it should finish building.

@mitu Woohooo! It worked! RetroArch has re-installed successfully AND all the games are working again.

Thanks a lot for your fast answer and solution. Much appreciated. Was already preparing for a full re-install of the platform (22.04 version of Xubuntu).

But your advice saved me a lot of work, awesome!

@mitu A quick question about the PR, any idea when there will be a CR and when the integration will take place? Just curious, don’t want to put any kind of pressure on the developers here.

@MrPacMan17 it's merged now, so you can back-out the changes to the retroarch.sh script and update RetroPie-Setup as usual.

@mitu I just backed-out the changes and updated RetroArch which went fine indeed. A BIG thanks for your support.
