PSP Not showing in game system selection menu
-
Hello everyone. I've searched forums, watched videos, rebooted multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled software multiple times and I just can't get the PSP to show in retropie. I have a 2018 Pi 4 B with retropie and loads of working snes, nes, n64, GBA titles installed and working fine. I've updated everything that can be updated. I've tried installing lrppsspp as well as ppsspp from the source and binary. I've tried them together and each by themselves. All the games are unzipped iso files and were transferred to a usb thumb drive in a psp folder I created in the retropie folder. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I wouldn't know how to just go in and change a line of code without help. Thanks in advance for any help and apologies if this has been covered, I search extensively and could not find the solution here.
Cheers

@cornishrooster do you happen to have a custom es_systems file? If so, emulation station won’t add new systems and they need to be added manually.
-
@lostless Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me how I'd know if I have that?
-
@cornishrooster You should remember if you modified one of these config-files.
Did you build your own setup or are you using a 3rd party image? -
@cornishrooster I just downloaded the retropie from the pi imager and put it on a pi 4 that I had been using as a 3d print monitor. Aside from watching tutorials and changing some options, I haven't edited any text. I tried doing through SSH but I really don't know what I'm doing. Google searches for SSH retropie editing only bring up articles on how to connect the two not actually edit anything. All the tutorials I've found assume some basic knowledge that I don't have yet.

@lostless Systems From the retropie website :
es_systems.cfg defines the systems that show up in ES. The RetroPie-Setup script will automatically generate this config file alphabetically when you install any new systems. ES will check two places for an es_systems.cfg file, in the following order, stopping after it finds one that works:~/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfgSays it happens automatically, not manually. Right?

Yes. Can you post a listing of your game files (iso) from your
psp
folder, on the Pi system ? You can use theFile Manager
entry from the RetroPie system to browse the local (Pi) folders.
Make sure your files' extension matches one of the supported extensions.all emulators were downloaded and unzipped from emulators.net
Not sure what that means - you install extra emulators in RetroPie from the setup script, not by downloading from a site.

@mitu Well I figured it out and it's kind of embarrassing, that said I want to say here in case it helps people down there road. I have two microcenter jump drives that are identical, one had a ntfs file system and the other fat32, per the retropie setup the drives need to be fat32 or exfat. I knew this but somehow I mixed up the drives and added a bunch of files to the wrong one. This explains why I have a bunch of games that work and then a lot that wouldn't load. I'm not 100% sure this was the ONLY solution though. It seems that when I went into retropie setup>configuration/tools>usbromservice (second to last)>enable usb rom service scripts - that the games loaded, but admittedly this could have just been from the games taking time to load after the file system change.
Thanks for the help. Sorry to waste everyone's time!Cheers

@cornishrooster
I have a similar issue.
I set up the psp folder & installed the psp emulator from binary. My psp ROM shows up in the RetroPie file manager but I cannot get the psp emulator to show on the menu carousel. I converted the iso file to a cso to save space. Hope that is not the issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been suspecting ES is the issue but I am not sure.
