Newb Q about installation time

Hello,

I suppose I'm a Linux dabbler who likes to play around when I have the time. I have spare laptop with PopOS and thought I'd have a go at turning it into a retro machine.

I'm currently installing RetroPie and I think I've made a mistake. I went through the setup options and have just been hitting "I" to install everything, which is taking forever and I won't need most of it. It's currently installing all the experimental stuff, but it started last night and it's still going.

Usually I'm surprised at how fast things install compared to Windows so I didn't think installing everything would be a problem, although I understand it's quite complicated with Retropi due to all the little files and integrations.

My questions is a) is that normal and b)if I quit the terminal will it muck the whole thing up or just whatever it was installing at the time?

Not sure if you need the tech specs, but the hardware is an HP ProBook 440, Core i5(8th gen), 8gb ram, SSD

There's nothing complicated, the programs are compiled from source and not installed from a binary installer - that's why it takes so long. You can interrupt the installation, it's not a problem - just press Ctrl+C a few times and the install script will eventually stop.

If you're just beginning with emulation, just do the basic install and this should cover most of the retro-systems. If you find a system/console you'd like to emulate and it's not there, only then install the package (when one it's available).

@mitu Sorry I wasn't clear, that's what I meant by complicated really, not that it was more technically complicated.
