Splash image AND Boot video
-
Hi
Pi4, Latest RetroPie image
I am trying to get a boot splash image when the PI powers on and then start a boot video while the system starts up and eventually loads Emulationstation.
The idea being in the initial BIOS boot, an image is shown, then while the OS starts to load my video plays.
I can get the video part working but the screen is blank until the video starts, I do not want that blank screen but rather an awesome pic of something.I have read the Docs about enabling Plymouth and this works (of course!) and was of massive help.
But the static boot splash no.
I have read through the Plymouth man pages before coming here and I have looked through tons of posts on this esteemed forum but I am at a dead end.Is it possible to have both?
Any pointers would be massively appreciated.For reference my cmdline.txt
console=serial0,115200 console=tty1 root=PARTUUID=1f48ed4f-02 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline fsck.repair=yes rootwait loglevel=3 quiet splash plymouth.ignore-serial-consoles vt.global_cursor_default=0 plymouth.enable=0

No, the Pi4 initializes the video (DRM) during boot and the video output is reset at that time, loosing everything that was on screen at the time. That's why the regular splashscreen starts a bit later during the boot, if it would start earlier, then it would be cut off by the video driver resetting the video output.

@mitu Thanks for this, saved my weekend!
I'm going to find something else to break on my machine now.
Appreciate it :)

This is was where my mind was at when I first though of this bootup sequence. Its the GPU test output screen.
Hope this helps some folks in the future
