#1 (main problem, but while I'm here I might as well ask about the other I've been dealing with)
Seemingly out of nowhere.. surely nothing I can think of caused it.. my retroarch will no longer load retroarch.cfg. The "all" file that I have been exclusively messing with for ages. Every time I load a game (snes) it puts a nearly blank retroarch.cfg in /tmp/ and I of course have no settings at all. I can then go through RGUI and load the normal one in /opt/retropie/configs/all and have everything back to normal. 'cept I of course have to exit and reload the game to play, in which case it is all gone again. I have tried copying over my proper settings cfg into the tmp folder but it is overwritten by the 70byte empty one again (I'm positive that is actually irrelevant).
... I just have no idea.

#2 before the above, all was working well except an odd controller quirk in emulationstation. The first time I enter ES up and left do not work, and down and right repeats forever. Push them once, then after a split second delay they keep going. If I exit ES -or- enter a game then come back out it is fine. Also, if my controller goes to sleep (8bitdo), when I reconnect it does it again... until either exit/restart ES or enter/exit a game.

@night I had the same problems with the last update. My PS4 controller did work in the menu but in the emulators it was very glitchy. i couldn't load up the RGUI menu, couldn't quit etc. I had to reinstall everything to the version I was using which was v3.8.1. When I reconnected my controller I could push like 2 or 4 buttons before it would stop working again.

If you have the last updates you're using version 4.0 RC1 of retropie which is a beta explains the bugs. You need to reinstall everything, upload all the roms again etc.

SNES should load the SNES specific config file found in the .config folder. In that config is a line to include the "all" config file for retroarch.

Look for this config and see if the include line is there and if it points to the correct "all" config. It sounds like when you load a ROM, the SNES emulator is not loading the SNES config file, so it creates one.

I'm not very knowledgeable with this, but you need to trace the config files. Retroarch also has a directory settings for configs. I believe it is set to "default" in the config. I know if you change this, it will cause problems.
