Winning Run remap to get it working in Mame 2016?
-
Hi. I am running mame 2016 in Retropie and cannot accelerate the car in any Winning Run namco arcade series games. I have an Xbox one controller and am just wondering if someone can share with me or tell me how they remapped their controller on input/analog config in mame to make these games work for them?

From another site:
A mame dev said

"If you're using RetroArch, there's an annoying, confusing two-level system where you need to assign controls to the "RetroPads" and then assign those to inputs in MAME. We aren't interested in dealing with it. Go to the RetroArch people for help."

The new updated lr-Mame i got in experimental does not run Winning Run. It bumps back to ES. Does anyone out there know of any mame i can download for the RETROPIE that will run
Winning Run
Winning Run 91
Winning Run Suzuka GP and
Driver's Eyes? -

Use the correct romset(s) for current MAME, not the ones for older mame versions.

@barbudreadmon @Folly @DTEAM the latest lr-Mame should support these games and yes, I updated the roms. They just don't run and are bumped back to ES. Is there something else these 4 roms need? A special bios or something? These games have been in mame since just after mame2016 came out..a few official releases later.

@Ashpool @barbudreadmon @Folly @DTEAM Yes. Yes. Thanks. I have done these things. I have the correct roms and correct mame versions that came out after support for Winning Run was added (post mame2016). If you'd like to try to run Winning Run or if anyone can get any rom version in any retropie emulator, Mame or FbNeo etc, please inform me :)

@duglor Haven't checked "drivers eye" - but FYI the winning run titles are listed in mame with: driver/graphic status imperfect (so, maybe not worth playing in their current state). ... And maybe clrmamepro really is in need of an update, it validates/creates the roms as good (edit:unmerged, bios not split [and irrelevant, as the roms in questions don't have a "romof" entry]), but ommits the required sys2mcpu.bin from the created rom-archive(s).
Edit: Driver's Eyes ain't even worth trying (preliminary).
Edit: Sorry, I had forgotten that I actually had clrmamepro set to split bios sets - so that dump i thought was missing, actually is found in namcoc65.* - I confused myself a bit there, as AFAIK in mame terms that's a device and not a bios.

@Ashpool Any advice on how i can play these 4 games on the pie with the current roms? Hehe. Be well and thanks for your help and concerns!! :)

When a rom doesn't run and bumps back into emulationstation then always launch with verbose logging.
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/?h=verbose#launch-with-verbose-logging
If you use one of my runcommands then vebose mode is on by default.
Then check the runcommand.log forNOT FOUND IN
this will give you the rom- or biosrom-name which is missing.
I assume it'snamco65
which is missing.
Place it in the proper BIOS or BIOS/mame folder.I tested winrun,winrun91 and winrungp.
They work and are somewhat playable but have issues.
The pi4 seems to be too weak even with -frameskip 10 (keep pressing F9, F11 shows the speed and frameskipping) then it runs on about 55%.You need a good normal pc for these roms to get 100% speed.

@Folly Thank you so much for doing this. It was very kind of you. Very helpful, informative, and solved my long problem with this game.
