Save State Issues

Any time I try to make a save state it says "This core does not support save states." Is there a way to fix this? When I play the dreamcast emulator the save states work and there is a nice menu with a couple slots and pictures of the save state. Is there a way to get a similar menu for playstation or other games?

@mitu Is there a way someone could walk me through step by step verbose logging like what that is and how I do it. I've been given this link
