Hi there. Forum help would much appreciated.

I've setup my RetroPie as per instructions, and I'm just trying to copy across a ROM, but when I refresh emulator, the games and/or consoles don't appear on the start up screen like they should do. I've checked into the file system, and the game appears to have been copied as - Crash Bandicoot (USA).7z.KFVtOu, when I click on the file the terminal tells me : cannot execute binary file : Exec format error, which sounds pretty significant - but my understanding stops here. Is it a problem with that particular file, or a larger problem with my SD card and the initial RetroPie setup?

      Manyt hanks

I'm having a similar issue. Just grabbed the 4.0 image and dd'd it to an SD card. Did the normal first-time run stuff, rebooted, and then scp'd some PSOne ROMs over. After a reboot, the PSX emulator didn't show up. So I tried some SCUMMVM ROMs. Same problem.

I'm about to try the 3.8 image, but their might be something going on here.

Note: My problem could definitely be the lack of .cue files. Not really sure yet.

Just got 3.8 up and running. The experience is very different between 3.8 and 4.0. When 4.0 is up and running, only the Retropie "emulator" is available. With 3.8, SCUMMVM, Infocom, Amiga, DOS, etc., are all available. Sticking a .bin in roms/psx works as expected in 3.8 and adds the Playstation emulator.

PSX is installed by default on RetroPie 4.0 - but you need a .cue file for your .bins - this detailed in the documentation - https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/playstation-1#roms

ScummVM is not installed by default and is installable from the RetroPie-Setup script.

Hah dude, look at that file extension it's:

                .7z.KFVtOu

It's a compressed archive file which holds the image file of the game. 7z files are like rar files basically they are compressed archive files, but the .KFVtOu I think the file wasn't downloaded completely. Re-download the file, open the .7z file with WinRAR and copy the image file to the roms folder. The PSX emulator doesn't load archive files, it's not like some of the emulators which can load ZIP files.

Weird file extension asides, I just rip the PS1 games straight off the disc onto my PC.
                  Here's a good tutorial:

                  Don't sweat it.

@BuZz Fair enough, but under 4.0, I'm also not seeing any of the emulators that are visible on a virgin 3.8 install. In particular, Ports' absence was wined about by my main users. Is that an intentional change? With the exception of Ports, I like it.

When I find/buy another microSD card, I'll try making some .cue files.

Yes. A smaller selection of stuff is added by default, since it is now easy to add and remove individual packages. This keeps the image size down, and allows more flexibility - there were a lot of complaints in the past that we shipped with things people didn't want.
