Raspberry Pi 5 - official announcement
-
@pjft I'll provide make a list similar to that gamecube/dolphin thread. But a good yardstick is anything in the high GPU or high CPU PSCX2 threads are unlikely to work.
But so far I've found quite a fair few work pretty well, although I didn't own a PS2 back in the day so I'm not sure how accurate some of the emulation may or may not be
-
@retropieuser555 AetherSX2 installed fine for me (and yes, I did remove the "bios" folder and created a symlink that points to ~/RetroPie/BIOS/ps2 and popped the bios files in there.
Other than audio (which is silent for me) everything seems to be working fine, and I was even able to map a gamepad chord to exit.
Is audio working for you, and if so, was there anything special you needed to do to enable it?
-
@roslof I think I needed to install Pulse Audio and then it started working
-
Amazing thank you so much! I should have checked if there was a nogui flag!
-
@Jiryn That’s cool. I’m hoping it can run sega Saturn games better. But I’m also hoping to run some games I couldn’t run before on the pi 3 and 4. These games include CarnEvil, Killer instinct 1 and 2 for the arcade, Killer instinct gold for N64, and others. Not to mention, I’m hoping it runs windows 98 a little better while running the dosboxpure core. As for the ps2, and GameCube games, I’m planning to download it so I can play some mods.
-
@Rockofan96 I still have those systems, ODE modded.
But I fully agree with your games, Killer Instinct 1 and 2m CarnEval, stuff from the mid 90s would be awesome.
Not sure about N64 games. -
@mitu more for me to know what to test my scripts on. is bookworm most likly going to be what the next official release is going to be based on?

Yes, being the only one that supports the Pi5.
-
@mitu thank you
-
@mitu everything in here I read is exciting, looking forward to an official base

@miremi hopefully if not in official, ps2 will end up in an extras installer loved watching this thanks for the video

Nice! Let me know when you have something testable, than for me it’s ok to buy a pi5 and test
-
@mitu are we likely to see emulators for the gamecube, wii, ps2 and 3ds on the Pi 5? or even the ps vita?
-
You can install
lr-dolphin
anddolphin
emulators, to play Gamecube and Wii games, i can compare performance with N64 on RPi3. Take a look on this topic: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/35203/dolphin-gamecube-wiiware-wii-compatibility-on-pi-5Vita i don't think it can emulated in Rpi5.
I don't know about 3DS, the situation after shutdown of yuzu affect this project too. -
@abj Very nice and thank you for the information. How about PS-2 emulation?
be well!
-Doug -
@duglor It is possible to run some Ps2 games with the use of AetherSX2 emulator but i haven't test it yet.
A scriptmodule is under development, see : https://github.com/Exarkuniv/RetroPie-Extra/pull/181
-
@duglor the script is WIP, so it might need some editing and tweaking.
i am testing it
-
I test some games with AetherSX2 and the resuLts aRe better that i expect.
Games that are working fine are:
GTA: San Andreas
Ico
Onimusha 2 (in software mode)
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 4
Legaia 2
Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness
Breath Of Fire V (in software mode) -
Excuse me folks, but I do have one question regarding the Pi 5. Once we get an official image for the pi 5, will Vulkan be one of the available video drivers? No rush, I’m just curious and I’d thought I ask you.
-
I believe yes. Check this commit : https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/3785
