F1 not working to bring up Retroarch
-
Thank you to the team of people working on keeping this up and running!! Im new to this platform and have enjoyed playing around with my old ROMs on a more portable platform :)
My issue is that PS games look too pixelated to play, so I wanted to enter the retroarch GUI that has options to change resoultions and performance while in game. However that doesn't seem to work for me :(
Can anyone help tell me how to fix this or where to go to begin tweaking this without using the command line retropie-config?
Im running retropie 4.0 on rasp-pi 3
Thx,
D

Should be able to get to the menu with select+triangle. Can tweak the shaders there.

@darwinasm86 if you didnt set up a hotkey for the key board (i use ctrl) in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg you have to hold down the hotkey on the controller while pressing f1 (by default the select button)

Thanks DLC, That fixed the menu issue, any recomendations on cleaning up the video on playstation?
I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the emulator, and this is as good as it gets or I can get less pixelated video. Thanks edmaul69, I think that part is confusing, I setup the keys in emulationstation, but I didn't do anything with retroarch.cfg.
Should I have done something with that as well?D

@darwinasm86 nonyou dont unless you want to use the keyboard hotkeys

@darwinasm86 For a quick fix for the video you can use the configuration editor to add a shader. I'd use crt-pi.
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Configuration-EditorHere is a video showing an overlay:
And here is a tool that may work for you:

Hi Floob,
Thank you for the info, funny I was watching the video you linked yesterday :)
I installed the video manager and ran it, and ..Selected 2) Apply Shaders
Selected 2) CRT-Shaderafter two {cp: cannot create regular file....} attempts
Shaders have been applied to Doom, FBA...psx...I also fumbled through the <./retropie_setup.sh> and I dont think I helped anything lol...
Couple questions... did I do it right... seemed to change the video to kinda scan line old CRT image on the HDTV...
I don't see anything about <crt-pi> for an overlay, is that what is in your video that goes around the edges?
How do I enable that?
Thx,
D

You can add the crt-pi shader using the configuration editor, check the video here for more details
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Configuration-EditorI'm making some changes to the video tool, there is an overview here:

Ok, I see what I missed.
On the Configuration Editor page of Github, the picture of the retropie page is actually a video, couldn't tell until I accidently clicked on it.
Great video and well done, Ive tried Wing Commander and it looks great, brings me back to the eighties and tron! Thanks for the help.
two more questions:
-
Have you tried playing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Iron and Blood? the resolution on the main menu is so bad no matter what I do.. Sigh
-
What is the name of the old tv overlay you used on the first video you linked?
Thx,
D
