Player two joystick configuration
-
Im having problems with my second player joystick in retropie rasberry 4b, it just won't configure correctly , it seems to be going one way, or back instead of forward.
Iv tried several times to set it but it just doesn't change, am i missing something, thanks for any help -
@captin if P1 and P2 are the same brand and model, they'll use the same configuration file. You need to make sure they are wired exactly (!!!) the same as each other, and then only configure one of them, once. The other, being wired the same and using the same configuration file, will "just work."

@sleve_mcdichael Thanks for your reply, i think i mounted the other joystick upside down, thinking the ribbon cable to the decoder might not fit. That probably didn't help, do the button cables have to be the same in the decoder as well, or can that be changed in the configuration. Thanks again for your help.

@captin everything. Exactly. The same.
They use the same configuration file. They have to be i-den-ti-cal.
You push "left" on your joystick. This sends an electrical signal down a wire, to a port on the controller board. The control board reads an input on a certain port and says "hey computer, the human just activated input-42, whatever that means; do with that what you will."
The computer says "hey human, what did you just do" and you say "I pushed left."
So the computer makes a note: "Brand X, model P-52, input-42 means human pushed Left."
So the next time it sees Brand X model P-52 input-42, it won't ask. It'll just look up in its lookup table and say "ah-ha! I know this! This means LEFT!" So it's your job to ensure, by wiring it up exactly, exactly the same as last time, that when you push "left" it reports "input-42 was activated."
