HELP ME Cannot install dkms

I am trying to install dkms but every time I put in the command

git clone https://github.com/nicman23/dkms-hid-nintendo

I get

cloning into 'dkms-hid-nintendo'...
fatal:unable to access 'https://github.com/nicman23/dkms-hid-nintendo'
could not resolve host github.com

please help I am new to using retropie

Your system doesn't seem to be connected to the internet, so git cannot access the remote repository and copy it (clone) locally.
