Raspberry pi screen not working
-
Hi, I have this HDMI screen for the RPi 4. When I try the screen with retropie, it just shows a bunch of colored lines scrolling down the screen; when I try retropie with ANY other screen it works perfectly!
When I try this screen with any other pi os such as Recalbox, Lakka, or Raspbian it works great.
I've tried adding hdmi_force_hotplug=1 and hdmi_drive=2 to the config.txt; nothing is working.

Please add some more info about your setup, as asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Which Raspbian (now RasPI OS) version and edition did you install ? -
@mitu I am using the latest version of retropie from the RPi imager.

Which is version ..? What model/vendor is your screen ? Does it needs special configuration to work ? (again) Which Raspbian (now RasPI OS) version and edition did you install and it worked with the screen ?

@mitu The screen is a 5inch HDMI LCD Resistive Touch Screen from waveshare. There are no drivers needed for the screen, it's just plug and play.
For the os that worked, I used Raspberry pi os bookworm x32 bit and x64. I also tried it on tons of other raspberry pi gaming OS(s) running various core operating systems.

Which one ? I've seen a couple of pages on the Waveshare Wiki for a 5in HDMI screen and they seem to require additional configuration for their specific/non-standard resolution (800 x 480).
If you exit EmulationStation (connect a keyboard and press F4), do you get back a functional terminal ? Can you runtvservice -s
from the terminal to see which resolution is RetroPie using. -
@mitu Here is a link to the wiki for the screen: https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/5inch_HDMI_LCD
The screen requires no configuration, as long as you don't want to use the touchscreen.
I can't go into the terminal, it's still these scrolling lines of color; when I press F4 nothing apparently happens.

Use SSH to run the commands.
From what I can see in the Wiki page, it does need configuration for the display resolution (
config.txt
)hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_cvt=800 480 60 6 0 0 0 hdmi_drive=1

Wow! Now it's working great! Thanks.
I had tried all other options except
hdmi_cvt=800 480 60 6 0 0
