Is it safe to change framebuffer_depth in RetroPie 4.6 - 4.8?

I have noticed, that when I load a desktop and run xwininfo it shows me color depth 16 bit.

Can i use framebuffer_depth=32 in config.txt or this can slow down the emulators or can cause another problems with emilation?

Should I use framebuffer_ignore_alpha=1 like it was in some older versions of raspbian?
