BlueMSX, BIOS Files, and Xak
-
hello, i'm having trouble with the game Xak in BlueMSX. The games opening movie disks don't boot up, it just takes me to an MSX basic screen and I get trapped there. Then when I boot up the game dsk, it keeps me trapped in a menu to load save files. This might or might not be affected by BIOs confusion because i've been getting conflicted guides on what bios files I need. The ones I have are as follows. MSX.ROM. MSX2.ROM, MSX2EXT.ROM, MSX2P.ROM, MSX2PEXT.ROM, and MSXDOS2.ROM. This is not entirely in line with what's Retropie's website says, there's other roms mentioned there which I don't recognise, can't even find, maybe they have different names. For Instance, I can't find MOONSOUND.ROM or PHILIPSDISK.ROM. Other roms, like MSX2PMUS.ROM and XBASIC2.ROM, I don't know if I have those under different names. If anyone got those games working, have info on BIOS files I may be needing, I'd appreciate it.

I can boot and start the English translation from an
.m3u
file which contains the 3 disks. I can't tell which of the BIOS files are used and the emulator doesn't log the model and BIOS loaded, but I had the following files in the BIOS folder:- MSX2EXT.ROM
- MSX2PEXT.ROM
- MSX2P.ROM
- MSX2.ROM
- MSXDOS2.ROM
- MSX.ROM
What version of Xak are you starting (original or a translation) ? Did you change the core options and overriden the model auto-detection ?

@mitu I tried both versions, I have a translated version that well... someone did a thing where they merged all the game dsks and save dsk into one (to make it useable in Sofiarun on the MiSTer FPGA, and I tried untranslated multidsk versions. I have not turned off that auto-detect thing. Looks like I should give that a shot.

@Texemosis said in BlueMSX, BIOS Files, and Xak:

My configuration has that setting set to auto, I don't think it needs to be turned off.

okay so the games started working when I used the m3u from the translated version. Maybe there was something screwy with the other game files I tried or they struggled to work right unless I use an m3u. sigh now if only some of the other cores would recognise the m3u files existing >< that's a topic for another post though
