N64 Small screen to the bottom left with Odroid
-
Running 18.04 on an Odroid XU4
Getting this instead of full screen video. The audio works and I can play the game but I do not know how to get the screen larger.
-
For everyone who reads this: I fixed this with help from chatgpt a few weeks ago...;)Navigate into mupen64plus.cfg
Either
sudo nano /opt/retropie/configs/n64/mupen64plus.cfg
or
navigate and open it with mousepad or something.Please double check the path, not 100% sure.
Scroll down to your resolution and change:
[Video-General]
ScreenWidth = 640
ScreenHeight = 480to the resolution you use on your screen. This is manual work needed every time you switch monitor or TV with a different kind of resolution.
-
@Arrafart I tried doing what you have listed but it is not working still. Every time I start a game it adds Fullscreen = True.
[Video-General]
ScreenWidth = 640
ScreenHeight = 480
Fullscreen = True -
I did not mean you to delete anything, sorry
Does that maybe mean that it wants to go full screen but it can't? Not sure.
Maybe try full screen false, maybe it will force to try your resolution, just a thought.
Hope others can help. This worked for my Orange Pi zero 2w Armbian OS.
And do ask chatgpt.
Give it the errors you have. Hope someone will step in here... -
@retrodroid and did you change the resolution? Like 1440×1080 f.e.
[Video-General]
ScreenWidth = 1440
ScreenHeight = 1080
Fullscreen = False -
@retrodroid which N64 emulator or retroarch-core are you using? Tried any others? I'm on Pi 4 but, I remember some of 'em required manual set the video mode in runcommand launch menu, or else looked much like this.
-
My Armbian build works with what I wrote above earlier in this topic.

You can also ask Chatgpt for a stretch and/resolution advice command to put insudo nano /opt/retropie/configs/n64/retroarch.cfg
On my dietpi build I have a resolution command with "0" to adjust to the hdmi input resolution in there.
The x and Y are blank " " .I'm also trying to figure out the path the emulator takes the settings from. I've spotted retroarch and mupen64plus.cfg and glide64.ini files all over the place.
I wonder which files are master and which are slaves to understand the priorities/if-then order.
I'm trying to customize controller input, as I can't press a hotkey on my n64 modkit, and resolution preferences myself, because it autostretches to 16:9.
-
Today, when I used 800x600 it went full screen and stretched 16:9. If I used 1280x768, I had 4:3 max size, centered.
Suggestion to try several resolutions, experiment.
-
@Arrafart yup and that didnt work
-
@retrodroid any luck?
I'm trying to figure out how the files work. I hope to have the ratio automatically set to 4:3 on different screen sizes.
