      I want to add a couple of custom themes to carbon i.e. Street Fighter and Metal Slug.

      I know I need to update the es_systems.cfg with the new sections and folder names, then I need to add a folder into themes and update the gameslist (Ithink) i.e. sf & ms with my own system.svg and controller.svg and correct folder structure, but I can't update permissions via Cyberduck to add/update any files, as I keep getting "Faliure to write attributes..." on everyfile or folder.

      Any help appreciated.

        you'd need root access. see here to set up your root account;

          Cheers @senkun. Done that, and I'm now having ECDSA key issues. I'll do some more research 8).

            if modifying carbon theme, you should copy it from /etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon to /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/themes and modify it from there (no root access needed).

              Thank you @BuZz. I'll give that ago.

              I did fix my ECDSA issue by deleting the know hosts file from my mac and setting up the root account on the pi.
