Atari 800 and 5200 folders not present

RetroPie Version Used: 4.0
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: 4 Gig USB stick
Controller used: Generic USB Xbox style controller
Error messages received: None

The folders in the roms folder; mentioned in my title (Atari 800 and 5200) are missing from the USB stick that was formatted by Retropie for use. Atari 2600 and 7800 and all the others are appearnetly there and it appears that the 800/5200 are the only two directories missing.

Any idea why?

@Pantherman I have the same question. Any idea what to do to get these folders onto the usb stick? It doesn't appear to be as simple as creating the folders because it doesn;t work - perhaps you also have to add a bios to the bios folder?

I didn't install atari800 because I didn't know I had to install both - I'll do that now and see if that resolves the issue. Thanks for the feedback - I'll let you know if it is successful.

Hi there, I have just setup my first RetroPie from the latest image v4.1 for RPi3.

I too cannot see the following folders that should be present when accessing RetroPie via Samba Share:

Atari 800 ROMS folder: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/atari800
Atari 5200 ROMS folder: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/atari5200

The RetroPie site does not state that this emulator needs to be installed separately (it's included in the "systems in RetroPie" under "documentation". Was it inadvertently omitted from the current image ? I can see all of the other emulator ROM folders.

If I have to install the emulator manually, can somebody please point me to instructions on how to do this ?

Update "atarijaguar" ROM folder is missing also .

Thanks ! The instructions are a little vague which led to my confusion.
"Manage Packages" is under the "RetroPie Setup" located within the Retropie menu.

One final question, do I "install from binary" or "install from source" to add the optional emulators ?

Note: systems may have varying degrees of availability and performance depending on the platform RetroPie is running.

RetroPie can be run on a raspberry pi (all the way from a 0-3 which have different systems due to the different specs) it can also run on an odroid, and a pc and probably a few others and the code is constantly in development, the image is just a convenience we provide but someone could just install RetroPie and only add one system if they wanted. There isn't really a way to quantify it. If there is no rom folder for that system, you don't have the system. Simple as that.

RetroPie has some systems flagged as main or core systems, and as you've now discovered, the Atari 800 and 5200 are not part of that group. Going through the menu you will find it, and many others, in the optional systems menu. That process will add the emulator and create the necessary ROM folders.

The Binary option is always the safest and easiest way to install an emulator. Installing from Source is more advanced and only needed if you're after a recent code change to that emulator, but you run a higher risk of encountering bugs.
