      Hi,

days ago i was in the IRC chat and told someone how i switch my Pi on and off....with my TV-Remote.
They seemed surprised so i want to share the info about this little gadget with you (german amazon):

      http://tinyurl.com/jku9cd4

These power socket adapter can learn ANY key from your remote (just use an uncommon one) for switching the power on and off. It is very handy when the RPi is installed somewhere behind the TV and you don't have to pull this little USB-plug....
I've git 2 of these, one for the pi, another one for my complete entertainment stuff like TV,DVD etc.

I think in english speaking countries those gadgets are known as "standby killer".

      greetings

Sounds similar to the X10 system I used to have in my old apartment.
You are shutting the pi down properly before cutting the power I presume?

No. The RPi runs 24/7 now, the "IR-Reset" is only used when the RPi hangs or a game crashes.

Why not just use the built in reset pads on the pi. They are labeled "RUN" solder in a button. Press it and it does a hard reboot.

Go down to Hack 17. Add a Reset Button

              That is not the same.....
My Pi is mounted in a case at the rear of my TV (=not that easy accessable), and
resetting via IR Remote (that i use for KODI as well) is much easier and more comfortable.....

                Hi @HPK-de
                what about this?
                http://www.instructables.com/id/Reuse-Unwanted-Remote-Control-to-Control-Raspberry/

In addition you just need a TSOP IR diode and three wires, costs round about 45ct :)

                  Hi,

thanks, but i use that already.
I control my Pi (Kodi etc.) with the same (One-4-all) remote i use for my TV, DVD and
                  the switchable IR-Powersupply.
Very nice having just one remote for all.....

But controlling the pi is one thing.... to reset him is the other.
When the pi hangs, you can´t restart it with the IR-diode, i can only switch off the power
