What exactly did you install ? From the log it seems that you installed incompatible versions of some dependencies, or some were removed.

Did you enable opengl acceleration from raspi-config?

You must have done something else and probably was what BuZz said, the OpenGL driver. Disable it has it won't work with Kodi, ES and most of the emulators.

Interestingly, ES and most emulators work fine, only Kodi is causing trouble.

Btw, is this is right version of kodi for Retropie (installed through Retropi-Setup)

                5:14.2+repack-dmo1b2

Also, raspi-config --> Advanced Options --> GL driver - menu is giving me error "xcompmgr not found - please install", I hope this is expected.

No, that is the Debian version made for x86 running OpenGL. Hence that errors in the log.

Are you sure you are using a RetroPie image ? If so you just need to follow the instructions on the wiki to install Kodi. And don't enable the OpenGL driver, it will not work.

Ok, that gave me pointer to look for what x86 packages I had on the system, looks like mesa-utils as from www.deb-multimedia.org was causing all the problem.

Removed the foolishly incorrect repo, RetroPie-Setup --> Install Kodi worked perfectly.
