      Hello,
I'm tried my Pi3 SD card in my spare Pi2 and I assumed it should work as I'm on Retropie 4.0.1, but I get this error:

Interesting question, I've moved a Retropie 4.0.2 card from a Pi2 to a Pi3 without issue when I was trying to diagnose my stereo audio problem. Even got wifi working but I've never tried the reverse.

Wonder if I can pop it back in the Pi3 and prep it to run on the Pi2 somehow?

There is no error in the screenshot - just boot messages.

Did you install anything from source on the rpi3 ? (Including drivers) ?

Also did you overclock at all ?

No that I remember although it's an upgraded image as it use to be on 3.7.

Am I doomed? I was hoping not to have to build from scratch.
