Problems loading games on Dreamcast (Reicast) emulator.
-
Im very new to RetroPie and having problems with getting past the loading screen for dreamcast. I am able to see the games available to play. When i select the game it goes to the dreamcast screen where you select the date and time. I am able to get past that but from there no game loads. When i try to play a game it says insert disc. Am i missing something?
I went through the tutorial on https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/DreamcastAlso, Ive tried different boot and flash files with the same result
Ive got a raspberryp pi3
Newest release of RetropieThanks for the help!

@jcar23424 are you unzipping or extracting the Dreamcast ROM files (typically with .zip or .rar extensions). The extracted file should have an extension of either .cdi or .gdi
Also it could be where ever you are getting these ROMs might be damaged or unsupported by this Dreamcast emulator. Maybe try a different site?

Thanks, I actually had two different downloads for dreamcast roms, once was a zipped file which i unzipped and another was just several roms in the directory.
They all end with the .cdi format. I only copied a couple of games to the SD card to try, I was trying to go by the google drive doc on the list of compatible games.
I can try to locate some different roms and see if thats the case. When i select the game should it boot directly into the game itself or do i need to setup the date and time and then go to load game? Thanks!

Most of the Dreamcast ROMs I've seen have to be extracted twice. Like they're RAR'd up and then they ZIP them up to make the files smaller and easier to download.
You have to set the date and time everytime you play a Dreamcast game. It annoying be it is because the Raspberry Pi doesn't have a RTC like most PCs have. You can get a RTC chip for the Raspberry Pi which I would assume fixes this issue but I've never tried it.

Thanks, ill check out the Roms i have when i get home later today and make sure they are fully extracted. So after the date+time is set, does it just load right into the game?
Thanks for all your help.

Yeah, after the date & time it will load right into the game. I think since you do get the date & time prompt that your BIOS files are working because if they where not you wouldn't even get that far.

Good point, ill focus on the roms when i get home later. Thanks

Hi,
First post here.
I'm facing a similar problem and I want to know if you solved it and how.
The thing is that I am running DC in Attrack Mode, I have a bunch of games that WORKS without issues... BUT I have 2 games that get stuck on the white screen AFTER I set date/time.This games are: Volgarr and Sturmwind
They are in CDI format (they don't even exist in GDI/CHD).I have tried others CDI games and the run ok (despite the fact that all the games in my SD are in CHD format).
Another important thing... my .img is public, I've uploaded it to Mega... and I have been reported that, at least Volgarr... DOES RUN OK using my .img ¿?¿?¿¿? crazy, right?
So it has to be something related to gamepads, updates, etc...
Any tip?Thanks!

@xlmeg Sorry for the necromancing.
I and a friend have the same issue with Strumwind.
Even when I delete the image an copy it again does the same.
It ran once and that was it.He although said to me that the game is running with no problem with RECALBOX :-/

I had the same problems with Strumwind and Volgar the Viking. I was able to get them both working by going into +start reicast and resetting the vmu's.
