Changing MAME's default emulator?
-
Hey all, can anyone tell me how to change the default emulator MAME uses and which supports the most games?

I typically use the FinalBurn Alpha emulator lr-fba-next. Works great with Neo-Geo, Capcom and Konami games!Make sure you're using the correct Romset though for your MAME emulator of choice!

This is something I didn't understand at first but if you do get the correct Romset then the corresponding games work pretty well! -
Thanks. Turns out it was just an edit of /opt/retropie/configs/arcade/emulators.cfg. I'll try lr-fba-next.
I'm actually working with a 0.165 romset and found

you don't need to manually edit that file - you can switch from runcommand from the gui (see link above)
-
No worries. Either works.

I'm a little confused though - why does lr-fba-next (0.173 roms) only support 4150 games while lr-mame2010 (0.139 roms) supports 8782 games? I >would think a later version supports more roms yet it's only about half.
Remember that FBA is not MAME, they support different games.

Oh thanks, that makes sense. So I guess in general just stick with lr-mame2010?
I don't know why that's stuck on the 0.139 romset which is obviously over 6 years old, when 0.178 is the latest.

@DJQuad the most supported is lr-mame 2003 even if it has less games. If you play a game on lr-2010 vs the same game on lr-2003, lr-2003 more than likely will run better on a lower processing board like the pi. Just try both because the games vary and pick which you think works best for the games you want to play. I generally just stick with lr-mame2003
