Boot Problems with Pi 3
-
Hey all, I setup Retropie with my Pi 3 a couple months ago. Have it setup to show a splash screen while loading after the initial berries and text screen and then go into Emulation Station. Was working fine. But now its different all of a sudden. Now when I turn the Pi on I see a rainbow square screen, then the berries with text, then my splash screen, then berries with text again, then emulation station loading screen which takes much longer than it use to and then finally get into emulation station. Any idea whats going on?

Also just encountered it shutting down mid splash screen

@sreisig1 Check your power source.
You should use a power supply that delivers ~5V up to 2A (2.5A should be better)
My setup is 5.1V by 1.5A runs stable even if some users don't believe -
What is connected to your Pi? When I started adding things to GPIO I found that I had a wire accidentally connected to the wrong pin and it was shorting out the Pi and it would reboot. I also had an issue when I was modifying a USB cable where I had two wires misconnected (One wire didn't have the standard USB colors hooked up to the right pins. Always use a meter.) and it shorted out the Pi and it was rebooting.

Have a fan connected and now a power led. fan is hooked up to pins 4 and 6 and the led is 2 and 14. just 5v power and grounds. Its hooked up right. Just tried unplugging all gpio pins and restarting and can't get past splash screen now, just shuts down or i get a white screen. Starting to think its corrupt. Might just have to flush and start over if the card is still good :(

Running a Fan from GPIO can cause issues as they tend to draw quite a bit of current. If you have a spare SD card, try using that to see if it works before you reformat your existing SD card.

Its a really tiny fan, like the smallest you can buy, smaller than a quarter.
Anyway, I tried a spare sd card and put the newest retropie image on it with the fan and led plugged in and booted up fine, still does the text then splash then text again then into emulation station but quickly and with no issues. Never use to see the text twice, only once before the splash screen, must be new?
I guess my other sd card is corrupt somehow now.
