Able to change names to games for NEOGEO? (scraper from Steven Selph?)
-
I got a few games, as picture show, for NEOGEO
problem is that i would like the gamenames to be more clean... not all this about "ADM_008" / "adh-008" and so on..
ive tried to change them directly in the ROMS-folder, but then the emulator wont recognize them anymore - making them not playable..
i was thinking about Scraping with Steven Selph..
ROM Names: Choose what name to display:
what if i choose option "theGamesDB ROM NAME" of the three down below? will this make for a more clean game-name-list?
No-Intro: Rom Name (USA) (Rev 1)
theGamesDB: Rom Name
FileName: Rom Name [U] [!] -

Yes.
-
well ive tried it.. doesnt change anything!
ive tried the following options with the scraper:
- No-Intro: Rom Name (USA) (Rev 1)
- theGamesDB: Rom Name
FileName: Rom Name [U] [!]
not the third option "filename : rom name"
is that what i should use?
-
well i dont really need all the artwork..
just want the gamenames to clean up a little :)
-
@najkks sorry, I misunderstood your request. I thought you were having the real rom filename.
Well... the only way I can think to achieve what you want is manually edit the metadata...
-
yes.. for example the gamelist.xml - right?
im in the Rpi now using winscp.. but where can i find the xml-file?
ive read about a "hidden" folder called "pi" - but i cant find it
-
ive downloaded an XML-creator..
it creates the xml-file that i need to change the Name of neogeo-games
but the question is, where do i put the file to make changes take effect?
-
@najkks there's no need to create it from scratch, you can edit the gamelist.xml files.
Answering your question: for neogeo ES will check three places for a gamelist.xml in the following order, using the first one it finds:
- ~/RetroPie/roms/neogeo/gamelist.xml
- ~/.emulationstation/gamelists/neogeo/gamelist.xml
- /etc/emulationstation/gamelists/neogeo/gamelist.xml
more info about the emulationstation gamelist.xml files can be found here:

thanks
but i have to scrape the folder first? (neogeo for example)
when scraping, is the artwork etc taking up much space on sdch-card?
-
well.. ive scraped all night, for about 5 hours!
it still missing pictures for all of these consoles: NES, SNES, N64, NEOGEO, Megadrive etc..
why is this?
and also.. ive checked the gameslist in the directories you mentioned, but there's only one (in emulationsstation/gameslists/neogeo/
well theres one file per each console - but they only contain about 5-10 of the games availible for editing! -

No. I suggested it to avoid creating entries from scratch.

I don't think so (if you have 32GB). But to be honest I didn't measure it...

It create entries only for those games that it found metadata for.

It is expected. I just listed the files where emulationstation searches for metadata (in that order). But usually the file is at
~/.emulationstation/gamelists/neogeo/gamelist.xml
.Tip: copy
~/.emulationstation/gamelists/neogeo/gamelist.xml
to~/RetroPie/roms/neogeo/gamelist.xml
and then edit the last so the first is your "backup".well theres one file per each console - but they only contain about 5-10 of the games availible for editing!
It depends on the number of games that the scraper found metadata.
-
hmm okey, because before i scraped i could not find the xml-file in any of the directories you mentioned!
should i create i manually?
is there a way to "unscrape" so that i get rid of all downloaded artwork? i dont really need them

It's up to you. ;-)

You can delete the gamelist.xml files to get rid of metadata.
But to delete the downloaded artwork files you have to delete some directory below~/.emulationstation/
. I think it is namedimage
but I'm not in home now to check it. Check an<image>
entry in one of those gamelist.xml, there's a path to the artwork file there. -
well.. ive got about 3000 games now.. so is there a way to create it automaticly but without the artwork?
or is it possible to create it so that i might be able to change the names for just the NEOGEO-games? :)
thats the only directory where the name of the games are kind of screwed up
-
@najkks Details here (I should have shown it to you before, sorry):
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/scraper#steven-selphs-scraper -
okey.. so if i delete the "downloaded images" folder all the artwork should disapear?
or should i leave the folder and just delete its content?
still. strange that i cant find the xml-file with more than 5-10 games, dont u think?
because i have about 300 - 900 games per console
