Copying roms from thumbdrive question
-
Greetings all! I'm new to the forum and new to retropie and I'm having a blast with it. I had no trouble copying roms with a thumbdrive. I'm curious if I leave the previous roms that have already been copied on the thumbdrive and just add to them as I find more games to play will it only copy the non duplicate files or will it copy and replace everything. I was hoping to leave them all on there so I have a back up in case I want to do a fresh install later and not have to hand pick those roms again. I tried searching but couldn't find anything addressing this specific question. thanks so much

sorry. I did read that first when I registered I just didn't think it was relevant to asking how retropie copies from the thumbdrive when there's duplicate files on the pie and the thumbdrive. here is the info:

well, it depends which versions etc, so best to confirm. the usbromservice code has changed over the releases.
If the sdcard has a rom which is already on the usb stick, and they have the same date/filesize, it should skip it. But if a file date was changed it would re-copy.
Personally, I stick to using the network to transfer roms which is much more convenient.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. I was transferring over the network and it would crash when I was transferring the larger PSX bins. But I'm looking forward to learning more about Linux and networking so its all good. But that was using windows explorer. I haven't tried SFTP yet so I'm looking forward to learning that too.
