USB Audio on the fly switching
-
So recently I built myself a PiGRRL 2 which works like a dream. Unfortunately I haven't added a headphone jack since I didn't want to drill a hole unto the case although it wouldn't be too difficult.
I found out later on though that I could get sound to come out of the USB port so I ordered myself a dongle for a $1 and got it to work great last night.
My question is this, is it possible to modify the asound.conf text file so that if the USB audio dongle isn't plugged in it'll default to the speaker instead? I'm not a Linux coding guru, but I'm learning. I would think it would be some simple if/then line, but what do I know.
I did some searching and couldn't find anything to answer this.

Did you find a solution for your problem?
I got nearly the same issue: My retropie is built into a controller-case which can be "docked" to a monitor-cabinet with usb audio.
But if I take the controller (including the pi) out of the dock, I want it to play all the sounds over hdmi.greets bruce
