I have my RetroPie setup hooked up to some descent bookshelf speakers and it occurred to me I'd love to be able to use them for Airplaying audio from my iPhone. I'd like to be able to run an Airplay server either at boot alongside RetroPie (and hopefully not mess up sound etc...) or launch an Airplay server from within EmulationStation and close it when done. Swapping SD cards isn't an option here as the Pi isn't accessible without undoing some screws.

Has anyone tried this? There seem to be about half a dozen options for Airplay on the Raspberry Pi, and hundreds of tutorials for this, but many are way out of date and all of them assume your Pi is dedicated only to Airplay. I'd hate to install something and then suddenly find sound no longer works in RetroArch or something.

@raygan "Kodi" (formerly XBMC) can be used as an airplay receiver..

it can be installed from the experimental section of the setup script, and i can confirm it receives audio via airplay from my desktop OS X iTunes.. the kodi documentation states that iOS 8 and older can do audio/video/pictures, whereas iOS 9 and newer only support audio.

once you've installed kodi and launched it through emulationstation, go to "SYSTEM > Settings > Services > AirPlay > Enable AirPlay Support" to turn it on..

actually while it works from iTunes on OS X, it's not working from the built-in "Music" app on the current iOS; the phone acts like it's connected, but no audio comes out of kodi via airplay..

@dLux Yep, I'm getting the same results with Kodi. Shows up as a receiver but doesn't actually play audio. Anyone have any luck with other Airplay receiver options?
