Linkable Mini bartop with led buttons & 9.7" iPad 1 display

I'm slowly getting parts together for my first bartop.
Plans & parts:- iPad 1 display with driver board. Rpi connected via HDMI link text ordered & received
- Sanwa JLF joystick & 6 buttons (plus coin & select & etc.) ordered
- Zero delay encoder ordered
- Rpi 3 order next
- .....
I'll try to make two single player mini bartops. They are linkable so you can play 2 player games. I just have to try how well the wifi link works or use wired linking with HDMI and other cable for controls (USB?)
I would like the buttons to light up. Then you easily see which buttons are active for the current game. I have to research options for driving the leds.Soldering & programming is no problem for me. Retropie is new for me but I have made low level programming for android. My daily work is HW design engineer.
